David was introduced to rowing during his time at St Paul’s School in New Hampshire, where he met Rich Davis, an extraordinary teacher, rowing coach and mentor. He began rowing in the late 1980s at Brown University under coaches Val Ferme and Steve Gladstone, competing in dual races, the Eastern Sprints and the IRAs. He continued to row at New College, Oxford, where he stroked the men’s first eight and raced in the Eights Head, Fours Head, the winter and spring bumps, the Graduate Boat Race against Cambridge at Henley, and the Henley Royal Regatta. David returned to Bermuda in 2017, when he took up sculling and discovered coastal rowing. He has rowed around Bermuda for the SCARS and hopes one day to complete a solo circumnavigation. He is keen to develop rowing, sculling and beach sprints in Bermuda, and to share his love of this fabulous sport.

Amir was originally a football and tennis player, representing Bermuda at Under-20 level and playing football at Bates College for two and a half years before stepping away from the sport. He was introduced to rowing by close friend Daniel Rodriguez, known as DROD, who was a member of the Bates rowing team. Amir rowed for one semester and quickly fell in love with both the sport and its incredible community. After graduating, he was reintroduced to rowing through Longtails Rowing Club, where he is grateful to volunteer and be part of the rowing community and BRA board. Away from rowing, Amir coaches U-5 football at North Village. He is passionate about growing rowing in Bermuda, introducing more people to the sport and helping create a welcoming, enjoyable and sustainable community for future generations.

Barbara joined the BRA’s Learn to Row program in 2012 and quickly fell in love with the sport. In those early days, beginners learned in quads, wonderful boats for developing skills, provided everyone rowed in unison! The occasional hair-raising outing only added to the excitement of rowing.

Barbara served on the BRA Board from 2015 to 2026, taking on a variety of roles including supporting the annual learn to row program, hosting recreational rowing outings, and helping administer the participation of two Bermudian Olympic rowers across three Olympic Games.

In 2026, Barbara stepped away from the BRA Board to join the Board of Directors of Longtails Rowing Club, where she is focused on developing and supporting Bermuda’s youth rowing programme and creating opportunities for the next generation of rowers.

For Barbara, one of rowing’s greatest rewards is the interesting people it brings together and the lifelong friendships it creates. She is currently completing her USRowing Level 1 coaching certification and looks forward to returning to the water once she has recovered from an injury.

These days, Amanda’s time on the water has been somewhat limited by another passion, she is a horse owner and avid rider. However, she hopes to get back in a boat soon and return to rowing more regularly.
